The Satista contact print technique is based on glycerine and metallic salt development. It produces images that are very similar to platinum-palladium. In fact, some Stieglitz and other so-called platinum prints are in fact Satista prints.

Around 1910 the price of platinum began to rise and then reached new heights. It was at this point that Willis looked for ways to continue his business. The first was the introduction of a palladium paper (palladiotype) in 1914. Then he proposed Satista (patented in 1913). But the process, which was more complicated to master than the platinotype, was not as successful as the latter. Despite this, a number of great photographers used the process, including Strand and Stieglitz. Some of their images are still in very good condition.
