Jean-Marc Falconnet

Born in 1968 in Lausanne – Self-taught visual artist of Swiss and Guadeloupean origin

Jean-Marc Falconnet is a self-taught visual artist whose practice lies at the intersection of personal memory and collective history. Influenced by two cultures – Swiss rigor and Guadeloupean sensitivity – he has developed a body of work rich in contrasts, attentive to personal narratives and issues of identity.

Trained in photography in Arles and introduced to cinema by Pierre Morath and Nicolas Peart, he quickly established a unique approach. In 2010, the Pictet Group Foundation awarded him a prize for his reportage Dar Reality Project, which was then presented at the Galerie Nest.

From 2011 to 2021, he devoted ten years to Origine, a long-term photographic project that questions identity and family memory. This work, which won the Prix Focale – Ville de Nyon, was exhibited at the Galerie Focale in 2021.
